Yes. Melavo muslin is made from GOTS-certified organic cotton and certified to OEKO-TEX Standard 100 — tested against a list of substances known to be harmful to skin. It's soft, breathable and designed to be gentle for everyday contact with delicate skin.
Conventional cotton is one of the most chemically treated crops in the world. For fabric that spends all day against a baby's skin, "probably fine" wasn't good enough for us.
GOTS — the Global Organic Textile Standard — is widely regarded as the leading global standard for organic textiles. It verifies organic fibres, responsible processing, and environmental and social standards across the whole chain. The detail that matters most: our GOTS certification is held in Melavo's own name and traceable to the mill that makes our cloth — not borrowed from a supplier several steps removed. Proof you can ask to see.
Machine wash at 30°C with a gentle, non-bio detergent. Avoid fabric softener — it coats the fibres and reduces the natural absorbency you want in a muslin. Tumble dry low or line dry. Muslin softens with every wash, so it gets better with use. Avoid bleach and high heat, which break fibres down over time.
We don't try to be the cheapest. We use GOTS-certified organic cotton, a denser double-weave construction, and OEKO-TEX certified processing — all fully traceable to the mill. Those choices cost more to make, and we'd rather hold the standard than cut it to hit a lower price. You're paying for what you can verify, not for a label.
We want you to be sure. If something isn't right, you can return unused items in their original condition within 30 days for a full refund. Delivery and full details are on our Returns & Delivery page.
Most muslin is made to a price. Ours is made to a standard.
The difference is in things you can verify, not adjectives: certified-organic cotton held in our own name, OEKO-TEX tested, a double-weave construction that's denser than the single-layer cloth most muslins use, and full traceability to the mill. We'd rather show you the proof than ask you to take our word for it.
Standard muslin is a single layer of loose-woven cotton. Double-weave uses two finer layers woven together, which makes the cloth softer to the touch and better able to hold its shape and absorbency through repeated washing, where single-layer muslin tends to thin and fray. It's built for everyday use over time.
